What you need to know in Nice

Which terminal, and why it is not what you think

+

Nice does not split its terminals the way you would guess, and guessing costs you a walk with the bags. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 both take Schengen and non-Schengen flights. The sorting happens inside, after security: the airport's own notice of 3 May 2026 on the new Terminal 2 extension puts gates A40 to A45 on certain Schengen departures and gates B40 to B45 on certain non-Schengen departures, behind passport control, in the same building.

So what decides your terminal is your airline, not your destination. Long-haul sits on both sides, and the whole French domestic network is on the Terminal 2 list. Those lists move — we read yours on the day rather than from a guide.

Which terminal your airline uses — read on nice.aeroport.fr, 3 August 2026

Height decides the handover point

+

Then height decides where the car can be handed over, and it changes between the two terminals. Car park P2, against Terminal 1, is capped at 1.85 m. P5, against Terminal 2, takes 2.10 m across three indoor levels and one open one. P6 goes to 2.30 m, but it touches neither terminal: the airport lists it with the far car parks, served by a free electric shuttle every 15 minutes from 04:30 to the last flight. Rolls-Royce quotes the Cullinan at 1.835 m unladen, so P2 leaves a centimetre and a half before anyone asks the air suspension to do anything. We settle the car first and the terminal side second. If the car will not fit on your side, the tram closes the gap: lines 2 and B are free between Terminal 2, Terminal 1 and Grand Arénas, and the run between terminals is under three minutes. Cannes has the same problem with different numbers and a different answer, which is why the two cities are not interchangeable to a driver.

The Car Rental Center, and why we do not use it

+

The Car Rental Center is a separate place and it is worth knowing where. It sits behind P5 at Terminal 2, seven desks, the earliest opening at 06:30 and all of them closed by midnight. Nothing arranged through our network is handed over there. The reason to have the address anyway is the 01:20 arrival: if the booking is with one of those seven, there is no counter waiting. From Terminal 1 you reach it on the free tram or on foot along the marked walkway.

Private arrivals

+

Private arrivals use a different building again. The business aviation terminal runs to 1,510 m2, opened in March 2010, and has its own customs post alongside two security posts for departing passengers; entry is by automatic gate with videophone and plate recognition. Three handlers work it, and the apron holds around 120 business aircraft depending on type. The helicopter terminal beside it is only 201 m2 and dates from November 2015, but it has 14 stands, two FATO areas and a 60 m2 lounge. Nice is second in Europe for business aviation movements behind Paris-Le Bourget. That is also why the road outside is busy: 15.23 million passengers came through in 2025.

The low-emission zone no longer reaches cars

+

One line can come straight out of any quote you are given. Nice has a low-emission zone and it no longer reaches cars. The metropolitan order of 11 April 2025 kept restrictions only for goods vehicles over 3.5 t and for buses and coaches rated Crit'Air 4 or 5; light vehicles and light commercials came out of it. The perimeter still exists, and it is exactly where you will be driving: the Promenade des Anglais from avenue des Grenouillères to avenue Max Gallo, the quai des États-Unis and the quai Rauba Capeu, plus the hypercentre bounded south by the Promenade, north by the voie Mathis, east by boulevard Carabacel and avenue Désambrois and west by boulevard Grosso. Verified 2 August 2026.

The old town runs on municipal orders

+

Vieux-Nice, cours Saleya, place du Palais, Masséna, Jean Médecin: each is a separate pedestrian zone with its own municipal order, and the city reissued its user guide on 14 April 2026. Read the general derogation list for what is missing from it. Permanent access at any hour goes to emergency vehicles, to vehicles carrying disabled or sick people to treatment inside the zone, to owners and tenants of private garages reachable only through the zone and holding an annual authorisation from the Mayor, and to funeral vehicles. Taxis and private-hire cars are not on that list. Cannes writes them in by name; Nice does not. Extra categories do exist site by site, and the list for each site is released on written request. That request is ours to make, not something to discover at the bollard.

How the bollards actually work

+

The bollards themselves work off a totem with an interphone to the PC Sécurité, staffed round the clock. Inside, the limit is walking pace, about 6 km/h, pedestrians have priority, and parking counts as obstructive and is towed. The detail that catches first-timers: the bollards come back up immediately behind each vehicle, so you never follow the car in front through and you never reverse. During delivery windows they stay down: 04:00 to 10:30 for Vieux-Nice, 04:00 to 07:00 for Saleya, 04:00 to 11:00 for place du Palais, which takes no delivery vehicles at all on Mondays and Saturdays.

Parking in town, and at the port

+

In town the ceiling drops again. Corvésy at 3 rue Alexandre Mari and Palais de Justice at 19 rue Alexandre Mari are the two structures closest to Vieux-Nice and both are 1.90 m, which excludes most of what we arrange. Sulzer, 103 quai des États-Unis, takes 2.10 m. At the port, Port Lympia on the quai Lunel holds 382 spaces on four levels at 2.10 m with the first quarter of an hour free, and its published hours are seasonal, so a 02:00 collection there is not a given. Entrecasteaux on the quai des Docks is the open-air alternative, 53 spaces, thirty minutes free, and it can close during ferry boarding or a port event. Boarding hour is precisely when a quayside handover is least welcome.

Driving times we stand behind

+

From the airport we work to 35 minutes for the 32 km to Monaco and 70 in season, 30 minutes for the 27 km to Cannes and 60 in season, and 100 minutes for the 120 km to Saint-Tropez, 180 on a bad August day. The helicopter to Monaco is seven minutes from the same apron. There is one figure we will not give you: how long the Promenade des Anglais takes at 18:00 on a Friday in July. No published count exists for it, and a precise number would be an invention.

February takes the seafront away

+

February takes the seafront away, and the pattern is documented rather than folklore. In 2026 the Carnival ran 12 to 28 February with closures announced in advance. The Promenade des Anglais closed in both directions, together with avenue Max Gallo, place Masséna, avenue de Verdun and the Liautaud tunnel. Masséna and Plaza car parks closed outright; Ruhl-Méridien accepted no entries and only released cars already inside. The city's own advice was to use the voie Mathis and the A8 to get round the whole thing. The 2027 edition is announced for 9 to 28 February. If your dates fall inside it, we move the meeting point off the Promenade before you book rather than after.

The winter exception

+

Nice is our April-to-October city, and the winter exception is worth stating because people ask for it. Isola 2000 and Auron sit about 90 to 95 km up the Var and the Tinée, roughly an hour and a half in good conditions. The catch is legal, not scenic. Winter equipment is compulsory in the listed communes of the Alpes-Maritimes from 1 November to 31 March, and Isola, Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée and Valdeblore are on the prefect's list: three-peak snowflake tyres fitted, or chains or snow socks for two drive wheels carried aboard. A rear-driven convertible on summer tyres is the wrong car for that morning. We would rather say so than send one up the Tinée.

Delivery and handover

The car comes to you,
there is no counter.

  • Handover at your villa, hotel, terminal, heliport or berth.
  • We check garage entry heights against the car itself.
  • In winter, we ask how many pairs of skis travel.

Villa, hotel, airport, heliport, berth — you give us the address, we work out what it takes to put a car there. In Cannes that is the entry height of the garage. On the Rocher in Monaco, it is the number plate. We check before we confirm.

Frequent questions

Do you deliver to my address in Nice?

Yes. Villa, hotel, berth, or Nice Côte d'Azur. Give us the exact location in your request — that is what lets us answer in minutes rather than hours.

Which cars can you actually put on the ground in Nice?

Not all of them, and that is worth knowing before you choose. Access, ceiling heights and restricted zones rule some cars out street by street. Every vehicle page names the cities we deliver it to. If the one you want is not listed for Nice, give us the dates anyway — the network moves.

What deposit and conditions apply?

They are set by the partner supplying the car, not by us: deposit, minimum age, licence seniority and mileage vary from one to the next. They are stated in the written proposal before anything is confirmed. We act as an intermediary; the deposit and the insurance are held by that partner.
